AITON, JOHN (1797–1863)

John Aiton, escritor religioso escocés, nació en Strathaven en junio de 1797 y murió en 1868. Era el hijo menor de William Aiton, sustituto de magistrado de Lanarkshire. Publicó, en 1824, A Refutation of Mr. Robert Owen's Objections to Christianity. Por este escrito, el entonces Lord Douglas lo presentó al beneficio de Dolphinton, South Lanarkshire, que mantuvo hasta su muerte. Sus otras obras son: The Life and Times of Alexander Henderson, Edimburgo, 1836; Clerical Economics, Edimburgo, 1842; Eight Weeks in Germany, Edimburgo, 1842; The Lands of the Messiah, Mahomet, and the Pope, Edimburgo, 1852; The Drying-up of the Euphrates, Londres, 1853; St. Paul and his localities in their past and present condition, Londres, 1856.
