Thomas Edward Bridgett, católico inglés, nació en Derby, a 56 kilómetros al nordeste de Birmingham, el 20 de enero de 1829 y murió en Clapham (un suburbio de Londres) el 17 de febrero de 1899.
Thomas Edward BridgettSus padres eran bautistas, pero en 1845 se bautizó en la Iglesia de Inglaterra. Dos años después se matriculó en St. John College, Cambridge, pero poco antes de recibir su licenciatura en 1850 rechazó prestar el juramento de supremacía y fue recibido en la Iglesia católica. Entonces estudió durante seis años en el continente, siendo ordenadosacerdote en 1856, tras haber ingresado en la orden redentorista. La obra de su vida se centró en el campo misionero al que su orden estaba particularmente dedicada y en 1868 estableció la Confraternidad de la Sagrada Familia relacionada con la iglesia redentorista en Limerick, Irlanda. Además de su actividad como misionero, escribió The Ritual of the New Testament (Londres, 1873); Our Lady's Dowry, or, how England Gained and Lost that Title (1875); The Discipline of Drink (1876); History of the Holy Eucharist in Great Britain (2 volúmenes, 1881); Life of Blessed John Fisher, Bishop of Rochester (1888); The True Story of the Catholic Hierarchy Deposed by Queen Elizabeth (en colaboración con T. F. Knox; 1889); Blunders and Forgeries: Historical Essays (1890); The Life and Writings of Sir Thomas More (1891) y Sonnets and Epigrams on Sacred Subjects (1898). Igualmente editó varias obras, de las cuales las más importantes fueron la del obispo T. Watson, Sermons on the Sacraments (Londres, 1876); la de R. Johnson, The Suppliant of the Holy Ghost (1878); la del cardenal W. Allen, Souls Departed (1886); The Wit and Wisdom of Blessed Thomas More (1892); Lyra Hieratica: Poems on the Priesthood (1896); Poems on England's Reunion with Christendom (1896) y Characteristics from the Writings of Nicholas Cardinal Wiseman (1898).
