BROWN, JOHN NEWTON (1803-1868)

John Newton Brown, bautista americano, nació en New London, Connecticut, el 29 de junio de 1803 y murió en Germantown, Pensilvania, el 15 de mayo de 1868. Se graduó en Hamilton Institute (Colgate University), Hamilton, Nueva York, 1823; predicó en Buffalo, Nueva York, Providence, Rhode Island, Malden, Massachusetts, y Exeter, New Hampshire; fue profesor de teología e historia de la Iglesia en New Hampton (New Hampshire) Theological Institution, 1838–45; fue pastor en Lexington, Virginia, 1845–49, y secretario editorial de American Baptist Publication Society desde 1849 hasta su muerte. Preparó (1833) y revisó (1852) "New Hampshire [Baptist] Confession of Faith." Su obra literaria más importante fue Encyclopædia of Religious Knowledge (Brattleboro, 1835).
