CONSTABLE, JOHN (c. 1677-1743)

John Constable, controversista inglés, nació en Lincolnshire hacia 1677 y murió el 28 de marzo de 1743. En 1695 ingresó en la Compañía de Jesús, en defensa de la cual sostuvo acaloradas controversias contra los impugnadores de la orden. Entre sus principales obras, que escribió con el seudónimo de Clecophilus Alethes, destacan: Remarks upon Courayers's Book in Defence of English Ordinations, wherein their invalidity is fully proved (1723), The Convocation Controvertist (1729), Doctrine of Antiquity concerning the Eucharist (1736) y Specimen of Amendments proposed to the Compiler of The Church History of England (1741).
