EVANS, ROBERT WILSON (1780-1866)

Robert Wilson Evans, archidiácono de Worcester, nació en Council House, Shrewsbury, el 30 de agosto de 1789 y murió en Heversham el 10 de marzo de 1866.

Era el segundo hijo de John Evans y de su esposa Jane Wilson, siendo su hermano William Edward Evans. Fue educado por el doctor Butler en la escuela de Shrewsbury, de donde fue a Trinity College, Cambridge, en 1807, obteniendo la licenciatura en humanidades en 1811, la maestría en 1814 y la licenciatura en teología en 1842. Fue elegido tutor de clásicas de su colegio en 1814, teniendo por colega a George Peacock, posterior deán de Ely. En 1836 su antiguo profesor, el doctor Butler, entonces obispo de Lichfield, le hizo su capellán examinador, poniéndolo en la vicaría de Tarvin, Cheshire, donde tuvo abundante obra parroquial, que relata en Bishopric of Souls. En 1842 aceptó de su colegio el vicariato de Heversham, Westmoreland. Una de sus primeras acciones fue construir una nueva casa pastoral. Fue nombrado archidiácono de Westmoreland en 1856 y tras desempeñar el cargo con gran satisfacción del clero y laicado del distrito, dimitió en enero de 1865 a causa de su avanzada edad.

También escribió cinco volúmenes en las series The Theological Library, Scripture Biography (1854) y Biography of the Early Church (1836).
