FENN, JOHN († 1615)

John Fenn, teólogo católico inglés, nació en Montacute, cerca de Wells, y murió en 1615. Era hermano de James Fenn. Tras ser educado en los rudimentos de gramática y música como miembro del coro de la catedral de Wells, fue enviado a la escuela Winchester en 1547. Fue elegido prebendario de New College, Oxford, en 1550 y dos años después estudió derecho civil, no siendo seguro que se licenciara. En el reinado de María fue profesor en Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, pero al subir Isabel al trono 'fue expulsado por el celo insensato de dos escoceses.' Luego se marchó a los Países Bajos y tras estudiar cuatro años en Italia fue ordenado sacerdote. La afirmación de Dodd de que fue admitido al Colegio Inglés en Roma no está confirmada por los registros del colegio. Tras regresar a Flandes fue confesor de las monjas agustinas en Lovaina. Allí y en las ciudades vecinas pasó unos cuarenta años 'exiliado, realizando extraordinarios beneficios en la forma que profesaba.'
