GEIKIE, JOHN CUNNINGHAM (1824-1906)

John Cunningham Geikie nació en Edimburgo, Escocia, el 26 de octubre de 1824 y murió en Bournemouth, a 40 kilómetros al sudoeste de Southmapton, Hampshire, Inglaterra, el 1 de abril de 1906. Estudió en Queen College, Toronto, siendo ordenado para el ministerio presbiteriano en 1848. Fue pastor de Argyle Street Presbyterian Church, Halifax, Nueva Escocia, Canadá, 1851-1854, de Argyle Street Chapel, Sunderland, Inglaterra, 1860-67, e Islington Chapel, Londres, 1867-73. Luego ingresó en la Iglesia anglicana, siendo ordenado diácono en 1876 y sacerdote en 1877. Fue coadjutor de St. Peter, Dulwich, 1876-79, rector de Christ Church, Neuilly, París, 1879-81, vicario de St. Mary, Barnstaple, 1882-85, y vicario de St. Martin-at-Palace, Norwich, 1885-90. En 1890 se retiró del servicio activo. En teología se adhirió a la facción evangélica de la Iglesia anglicana, pero mantuvo el derecho a investigar todos los problemas religiosos.
