GREEN, SAMUEL GOSNELL (1822-1905)

Samuel Gosnell Green nació en Falmouth, Cornualles, el 20 de diciembre de 1822 y murió en Londres el 15 de septiembre de 1905. Fue educado en Stpeney (actual Regent Park) College (licenciatura en humanidades, universidad de Londres, 1844). Fue sucesivamente pastor bautista en High Wycombe, Bucks, (1844-47) y Taunton (1847-51), luego tutor clásico (1851-63) y presidente (1863-76) de Horton College, Bradford, que fue trasladado a Rawdon en 1859. En 1876 fue escogido editor de Religious Tract Socitey, Londres, y luego secretario de la entidad, retirándose de la vida activa en 1899. Fue administrador de John Rylands Library, Manchester, y vice-presidente de British and Foreign Bible Socitey. En teología era evangélico liberal. (1880); Christian Ministry to the Young (1883); Wycliffe Anecdotes (1884); The Christian Creed and the Creed of Christendom (1898); The Story of the Religious Tract Society (1899); Handbook of Old Testament Hebrew (1901) y Handbook of Church History (1904). Editó una nueva edición de la traducción de P. Lorimer de la obra de G. V. Lechler, Wiclif (Londres, 1884); una edición ampliada de Annotated Paragraph Bible (1894) y una completa edición revisada de la obra de J. Angus, Bible Handbook (1904), además de ser presidente del comité editorial de New Baptist Church Hymnal.
