GREENFIELD, WILLIAM (1799-1831)

William Greenfield nació en Londres el 1 de abril de 1799 y murió allí el 5 de noviembre de 1831. Estudió bajo dos tíos maternos, hombres de negocios en Londres, y luego recibió instrucción en hebreo de un judío en el empleo de bibliotecario, del que Grenfiled había sido aprendiz en 1812. En 1824 dejó los negocios para dedicarse a las lenguas y crítica bíblica y en 1830 era editor de versiones extranjeras para la British and Foreing Bible Society. Durante el año y medio que estuvo en esta entidad escribió sobre más de veinte lenguas. Sus principales publicaciones fueron: The Comprehensive Bible... with... a General Introduction... Notes, etc. (Londres, 1827); The Polymicrian Greek Lexicon to the New Testament (1829;); A Defense of the Serampore Mahratta Version of the New Testament (1830); Novi Testamenti Græci Tameiov... ex opera E.
