HARRISON, ROBERT († c. 1585)

Robert Harrison (o Richard Harrison, pues en True and Shrot Declaration siempre recibe el nombre de "Robert", mientras que otras autoridades lo llaman "Richard") murió en Middelburg, Zelanda, hacia 1585. Estudió en St. John y Corpus Christi College, Cambridge (licenciatura en humanidades, 1567; máster en humanidades, 1572), siendo removido del profesorado de la escuela en Aylsham, Norfolk, en enero de 1574 por objeciones puritanas al servicio del bautismo; posteriormente fue director de un hospital en Norwich. Fue amigo de Robert Browne y su principal ayudante y discípulo. Browne vivió en la casa de Harrison en Norwich, organizando juntos una iglesia en esa localidad en 1580; Harrison se fue con la congregación a Middelburg al año siguiente y, tras la partida de Browne, fue su jefe. Publicó: A Little Treatise upon the First Verse of the 122nd Psalm, Stirring up unto Careful Desiring and Dutiful Labouring for the True Church Government (1583; reimpreso por William Brewster en Leiden, 1618) y Three Forms of CatechismSf Containing the Most Principal Forms of Religion (1583). Harrison publicó también: Of Ghosts and Spirits Walking by Night, and of Strange Noises, Cracks, and Sundry Forewarnings, which commonly happen before the Death of Men, Great Slaughters, and Alterations of Kingdoms: one Book: written by Lewis Lavaterus of Tigurine, and translated into English by R. H. (Londres, 1572 y 1596); A Book of the Form of Common Prayers, Administration of the Sacraments, etc., Agreeable to God's Word and the Use of the Reformed Churches (1586).
