HOUGHTON, LOUISE SEYMOUR (1838-1920)

Louise Seymour Houghton nació en Piermont, Nueva York, el 22 de noviembre de 1838 y murió el 2 de agosto de 1920. Fue educada privadamente y en Utica Female Seminary, Utica, Nueva York, viajando en 1872-75 por Europa, donde quedó interesada en la McAll Mission. Además de estar relacionada con el departamento inglés de Vassar College en 1892-95, fue editora literaria (1888-89), editora asociada (1889-98) y editora jefe (1899-1902) del New York Evangelist y desde 1902 a 1904 editora asociada de Christian Work and Evangelist. Fue miembro y primera vice-presidenta del Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement desde 1889 a 1904 y secretaria de la delegación en Nueva York de la McAll Mission Association desde 1896. En teología perteneció a la rama liberal de la Iglesia episcopal protestante. Tradujo, entre otras obras, las de Paul Sabatier, "St. Francis of Assisi" (Nueva York, 1895); E. Stapfer, "Jesus Christ" (3 volúmenes, 1896-1898) y de Auguste Sabatier, "Religions of Authority and Religions of the Spirit" (1903).
