HUNTINGTON, FREDERIC DAN (1819-1904)

Frederic Dan Huntington nació en Hadley, Massachusetts, el 28 de mayo de 1819 y murió allí el 11 de julio de 1904.

Fue educado en Amherst (licenciatura en humanidades, 1839) y en Harvard (1842). Fue ministro de South Congregational Church (unitaria), Boston, Massachusetts (1842-55), tras lo cual fue profesor de moral cristiana y predicador en Harvard (1855-60). En 1860 se retiró derl unitarismo, siendo ordenado diácono en la Iglesia episcopal protestante, donde fue presbítero en 1861. Fue rector de Emmanuel Church, Boston, que él había organizado (1861-69), siendo consagrado obispo en 1869 de Nueva York central. Enseñó repetidamente en la escuela de teología episcopal, Cambridge, Massachusetts, y en General Theological Seminary. Entre sus obras se puede hacer mención de Lessons on the Parables of Our Saviour (Boston, 1856); Sermons for the People (1856); Christian Believing and Living (sermones; 1860); Divine Aspects of Human Society (Nueva York, 1860); Elim: or, Hymns of Holy Refreshment (Boston, 1865); Steps to a Living Faith (Nueva York, 1870); Helps to a Holy Lent (1872); Christ and the World (1874); New Helps to a Holy Lent (1876); Christ in the Christian Year and in the Life of Man (1878); The Fitness of Christianity to Man (1878); Sermons on the Christian Year (2 volúmenes, 1881) y Personal Religious Life in the Ministry and in Ministering Women (1900).
