KIP, WILLIAM INGRAHAM (1811-1893)

William Ingraham Kip nació en Nueva York el 3 de octubre de 1811 y murió en San Francisco el 7 de abril de 1893.

Fue educado en Rutgers y Yale (licenciatura en humanidades, 1831), en el seminario teológico episcopal protestante de Virginia (1832-33) y en General Theological Seminary, del que se graduó en 1835. Fue ordenado diácono en 1835 y pastor el mismo año. Fue sucesivamente rector de St. Peter, Morristown, New Jersey (1835-36), coadjutor de Grace Church, New York (1836-37) y rector de St. Paul's, Albany, Nueva York (1837-53). En 1853 fue consagrado primer obispo misionero de California y cuatro años después, cuando California fue hecha obispado pleno, se convirtió en diocesano.
