John David Macbride, orientalista inglés, nació en Plympton (a 8 kilómetros al nordeste de Plymouth), Inglaterra, el 28 de junio de 1778 y murió en Oxford el 24 de enero de 1868.
John David MacbrideEstudió en Exeter College, Oxford (licenciatura en humanidades, 1799; máster en humanidades, 1802), donde recibió una beca en 1800. En 1813 fue nombrado rector de Magdalen Hall y profesor de árabe Lord Almsner, reteniendo ambas posiciones hasta su muerte. Aunque era un laico, enseñó frecuentemente sobre teología, Su obra principal fue The Mohammedan Religion Explained (Londres, 1857). También publicó Lectures Explanatory of the Diatessaron (2 volúmenes, Oxford, 1835); Diatessaron, or the History of our Lord Jesus Christ compiled from the Four Gospels (1837); Lectures on the Articles of the United Church of England and Ireland (1853); The Syrian Church in India (1856) y Lectures on the Acts of the Apostles and on the Epistles (1858).
