McTYEIRE, HOLLAND NIMMONS (1824-1889)

Holland Nimmons McTyeire, obispo episcopal metodista americano, nació en Barnvell County, Carolina del Sur, el 28 de julio de 1824 y murió en Nashville, Tennessee, el 15 de febrero de 1889.

Fue educado en Randolph-Macon College, Virginia (licenciatura en humanidades, 1844), ingresando al ministerio metodista en 1845. Fue pastor en Williamsburg, Virginia, Mobile y Demopolis, Alabama, Columbus, Missouri, Nueva Orleáns, Louisiana, y Montgomery, Alabama (en este último lugar durante la guerra civil). Fue elegido obispo en 1866 y nombrado presidente de la universidad Vanderbilt en 1873. Fue editor de Christian Advocate (Nueva Orleáns) en 1851 y de Christian Advocate (Nashville) en 1858. Escribió: A Catechism of Church Government (Nashville, 1869); A Catechism on Bible History (1869); Manual of Discipline (1870); History of Methodism (1884) y Passing through the Gates (1889).
