PEABODY, ANDREW PRESTON (1811-1893)

Andrew Preston Peabody, unitario americano, nació en Beverly, Masscahusetts, el 19 de marzo de 1811 y murió en Boston el 10 de marzo de 1893.

Se graduó en Harvard College, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1826, y en Harvard Divinity School, 1832; fue pastor en Porstmouth, New Hampshire, 1833-60 y profesor de moral cristiana y predicador en Harvard University, 1860-61. Editó The North-American Review, 1852-61; escribió Lecture on Christian Doctrine (Boston, 1844); Christian Consolations (1846); Conversation, its Faults and Graces (1856); Christianity the Religion of Nature (conferencias Lowell, 1864); Sermons for Children (1866); Reminiscences of European Travel (Nueva York, 1868); Manual of Moral Philosophy (1887); Christianity and Science (conferencias Union Seminary, 1874); Christian Belief and Life (Boston, 1875); Baccalaureate Sermons (1885); Moral Philotophy: Lectures (1887); Harvard Reminiscences (1888); Harvard Graduates whom I have known (1890) y King's Chapel Sermons (1891); hizo una traducción de las obras de Cicerón, De officiis (1883), De senectute (1884), De Amicitia y "Scipio's Dream" (1884), "Tusculan Disputations" (1886) y "Plutarch on the Delay of the Divine Justice" (1885).
