RISHELL, CHARLES WESLEY (1850-1908)

Charles Wesley Rishell nació en Williamsport, Pensilvania, el 6 de marzo de 1850 y murió en Newburyport, Massachusetts, el 27 de septiembre de 1908. Fue educado en Drew Theological Seminary (1874-1875), Wittenberg College, Springfield, Illinois (licenciatura en humanidades, 1876) y en la universidad de Berlín (1889-91). En 1870 comenzó el ministerio en la denominación episcopal metodista, ejerciendo tareas pastorales en Finley Church, Cincinnati (1876-78), Winton Place (1878-80), Delhi (1880-83), Avondale (1883-86), First Church, Urbana (1886-89), Asbury Church, Cincinnati (1891-1894) y Central Church, Springfield (1894-95). Tras 1895 fue profesor de teología histórica en School of Theology de la universidad de Boston y deán ayudante tras 1904. En teología fue conservador progresista. Escribió A History of Christianity (Chicago, 1891; basada en la obra de R. Sohm, Kirchengesichte); The Higher Criticism (1892); The Official Recognition of Women in the Church (1894); The Foundations of the Christian Faith (Nueva York, 1899) y The Child as God's Child (1905).
