ROBERTSON, JAMES CRAIGIE (1813-1882)

James Craigie Robertson nació en Aberdeen, Escocia, en 1813 y murió en Canterbury, Inglaterra, el 9 de julio de 1882. Se graduó en Trinity College, Cambridge (licenciatura en humanidades, 1834; máster en humanidades, 1838); fue vicario de Beckesbourne, cerca de Cantervury, 1846-59; canónigo de Canterbury, 1859-62 y profesor de historia eclesiástica, Kings College, Londres, 1864-74. Sus obras históricas son de gran categoría. Escribió How shall we Conform to the Liturgy of the Church of England? (Londres, 1843); History of the Christian Church to the Reformation (4 volúmenes, 1854-73); Sketches of Church History (1855-78); Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury (1859) y Plain Lectures on the Growth of the Papal Power (1876). Editó la obra de P. Heylyn, History of the Reformation (2 volúmenes, 1849); la de John Bargrave, Alexander VII and his Cardinals (1867) y Materials for the History of Thomas Becket, en Rolls Series (8 volúmenes, 1875-83).
