SHERRY, RICHARD (c. 1506 - c. 1555)

Richard Sherry o Shirrye, autor inglés, nació hacia 1506 en las inmediaciones de Londres y murió poco después de 1555. En 1522 estaba en Magdalen College, Oxford, graduándose en humanidades el 21 de junio de 1527 y obteniendo su maestría el 10 de marzo de 1531. No es seguro que formara parte del consejo rector de esa institución, pero en 1534 fue nombrado director de la escuela Magdalen College, ejerciendo el puesto hasta 1540, cuando le sucedió Goodall. Posteriormente se estableció en las inmediaciones de Londres, dedicándose a tareas literarias, tanto en obras propias como en traducciones.

Fue autor de: A very fruitfull Exposition upon de Syxte Chapter of Saynte John, Written in Latin by... John Brencius and translated by Richard Shirrye (Londres, 1550); A Treatise of Schemes and Tropes gathered out of the best Grammarinas and Oratours... Whereunto is added a declamation... written fyrst in latin by Erasmus (Londres, 1550) St. Basil the Great his letter to Gregory Nazaanzen translated by Richard Sherrie (Londres); A treatise of the Figures of Grammer (sic) and Rhetorike (Londres, 1555). Richard Sherry ha sido identificado con John Sherry († 1551), quien en 1541 era archidiácono de Lewes y rector de Chailey en Sussex y fue capiscol de San Pablo en Londres en 1543.
