STERRY, PETER († 1672)

Peter Sterry nació en Surrey, Inglaterra, y murió en Londres el 19 de noviembre de 1672. Se graduó en Emmanuel College, Cambridge (licenciatura en humanidades, 1633; máster en humanidades, 1637; miembro del consejo rector, 1636); fue uno de los capellanes de Cromwell y uno de los catorce teólogos propuestos por los Lores en mayo de 1642, teniendo asiento como independiente en la Asamblea de Westminster casi desde el principio. Se caracterizó como místico y oscuro, pero su doctrina de la conversión y de la vida religiosa, de la experiencia cristiana, del deber y la esperanza fueron del tipo evangélico usual.
