TODD, HENRY JOHN (1763-1845)
Henry John Todd, anglicano, nació en 1763 (bautizado en Britford, a 3 kilómetros al sudeste de Salisbury, Inglaterra, el 13 de febrero de 1763) y murió en Settrington, a 29 kilómetros al nordeste de York, el 24 de diciembre de 1845. Estudió en Magdalen College, Oxford (licenciatura en humanidades, 1784); fue tutor y profesor en Hertford College, máster en humanidades, 1786; en 1785 fue ordenado diácono en la Iglesia anglicana como coadjutor en East Lockinge, Berkshire; recibió las órdenes sacerdotales en 1787; fue coadjutor de St. John y St. Bridget, Beckermet, 1787-1803; fue canónigo menor en la catedral de Canterbury; fue rector de Orgarswick, 1791-92; vicario de Milton, cerca de Canterbury, 1792-1801; rector de All Hallows, Lombard St., Londres, 1801-10; rector de Woolwich, 1803-05; vicario de Edlesbrough, Buckinghamshire, 1805-07; rector de Coulsdon, Surrey, 1807-12; vicario de Addington 1812-20; capellán real ordinario 1812-45; rector de Settrington, 1820-45; prebendario de York, 1830-45 y archidiácono en Cleveland, 1832-45. También fue custodio de los manuscritos en el palacio de Lambeth, 1803-07, y en 1824 era miembro de la Royal Society of Literature. Editó las obras poéticas de Milton (Londres, 1801) y las obras de Spencer (1805); escribió la vida de Brian Walton (2 volúmenes, 1821) y del arzobispo Cranmer (2 volúmenes, 1831); también Some Account of the Deans of Canterbury (Canterbury, 1793); Illustrations of the Lives and Writings of Gower and Chaucer (Londres, 1810); A Catalogue of the Archiepiscopal Manuscripts in the Library of Lambeth Palace (1812); Original Sin, Free-Will, Grace, Regeneration, Justification, Good Works, and Universal Redemption (1818); A Vindication of our Authorized Translation and Translators of the Bible (1819); An Account of Greek Manuscripts, chiefly Biblical, of the Late Professor Carlyle (1823); A History of the College of Bonhommes, at Ashridge (1823); Of Confession and Absolution (1828) y Repertorium Theologicum (1838).
