Charles Wordsworth, obispo de St. Andrew, Dunkeld y Dumblane, Iglesia episcopal escocesa, nació en Lambeth, a 3 kilómetros al sur de Charing Cross, Londres, el 22 de agosto de 1806 y murió en St. Andrew, a 15 kilómetros al sudeste de Dundee, Escocia, el 5 de diciembre de 1892.
Charles WordsworthEra el segundo hijo de Christopher Wordsworth y fue estudiante en la escuela Sevenoaks y en Harrow, matriculándose luego en Christ Church College, Oxford (licenciatura en humanidades, 1830); recibió el galardón por su verso latino, 1827, y por su ensayo latino, 1831; fue ordenadodiácono en 1834 y sacerdote en 1840; durante varios años fue tutor privado, teniendo bajo su instrucción a Gladstone y al cardenalManning; fue segundo rector de Winchester College, 1835-46; rector de Trinity College, Glenalmond, Pertshire, 1847-1854, siendo consagrado obispo en 1853. Tenía una gran facilidad para la enseñanza. Como obispo se propuso impedir la captura de la Iglesia episcopal escocesa por una estrecha facción, hacer manifiesto a los escoceses el valor del episcopado y las ordenanzas episcopales y hacer algunas concesiones a los presbiterianos, para poder conciliarlos. Fue un firme defensor del sistema sinodal y del deber de establecer la religión. La diócesis se desarrolló considerablemente durante su episcopado. Fue miembro de la compañía de revisores bíblicos del Nuevo Testamento, siendo miembro en Winchester, 1866-71. Publicó una gramática griega (Londres, 1839) y sus obras teológicas, aparte de varios volúmenes de sermones, abarcan: Catechetical Questions (1844); What is National Humiliation without National Repentance (Glasgow, 1855); On Shakespeare's Knowledge and Use of the Bible (Londres, 1864); 0utliness of the Christian Ministry (1872); Three Conclusive Proofs that the Use of the Eastward Position in the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist is contrary to the...
