WORKMAN, HERBERT BROOK (1862-1951)

Herbert Brook Workman, metodista wesleyano inglés, nació en Peckham, Londres, el 2 de noviembre de 1862 y murió en 1951. Recibió su educación en Kingswood School, Bath, 1873-80, Owen's College, Manchester, 1880-1883, Didsbury Wesleyan Theological College, Manchester, y London University, 1883 sqq. (licenciatura, 1884; maestría, 1885; doctorado, 1907). Ocupó varios cargos como pastor regular de su denominación, 1885-1903, cuando se convirtió en director de Westminster Training College for Schoolmasters. Fue profesor de Fernley en 1906; fue miembro de la Junta de Estudios de la facultad de teología de la universidad de Londres desde 1906; y fue elegido miembro de los Legal Hundreds. Como metodista wesleyano, creía 'que muchas de las viejas verdades necesitan ser reafirmadas en nuevas formas.' Es autor de What is the Gollenberg System? (Londres, 1895); The Church of the West in the Middle Ages (2 volúmenes, 1898-1900); The Dawn of the Reformation (2 volúmenes, 1902); Persecution in the Early Church (1906); Influence of the Christian Church upon the Civilization of the Middle Ages (en Garvie, Christ and Civilization, 1910) y History of Christian Thought up to the Reformation (1910); editó The Letters of John Hus (1904) y ayudó a editar The New History of Methodism (2 volúmenes, 1909).
