James Aitken Wylie, Iglesia libre de Escocia, nació en Kirriemuir, a 24 kilómetros al norte de Dundee, Escocia, el 9 de agosto de 1808 y murió en Edimburgo el 1 de mayo de 1890.
James Aitken WylieFue educado en Marischall College, Aberdeen, 1822-25, y en St. Andrew, 1826; ingresó en Original Secession Divinity Hall, Edimburgo, 1827; obtuvo la licencia para predicar en 1829, siendo ministro de Original Secession Congregation en Dollar, 1831-46; en 1846 se asoció con Hugh Miller en la edición de The Witness, Edimburgo, contribuyendo con unos 800 artículos desde 1846-64; en 1852 se unió a la Iglesia libre de Escocia, siendo durante ocho años editor de The Free Church Record; enseñó sobre el papado en Protestante Institute of Scotland, Edimburgo, 1860-90. Escribió el galardonado ensayo de la Alianza Evangélica titulado The Papacy (Edimburgo, 1851). Sus obras abarcan: A Journey over the Region of Fulfilled Prophecy (Edimburgo, 1845); The Awakening of Italy and the Crisis of Rome (Londres, 1866); The Road to Rome via Oxford; or, Ritualism identical with Romanism (1868); The History of Protestantism...
